Transfer Your Domain

A domain transfer is, in effect, to transfer domain name from the management under one registrar to another registrar. As a registrar is only responsible for the management of your domain records, this transfer should in no way affect your website, relevant email or DNS.

In order to process the transfer of your domain, you need to have domain already under your ownership and a registrar that you want to transfer that domain to. While the process of a domain transfer is a fairly simple procedure, it is important to understand the workings such a domain registration transfer so that things don’t get more complicated than you can handle.

The Domain Transfer Process:

  • Check that the domain name’s administrative contact email address is correct.
  • Check that the domain name is unlocked and available for transfer.
  • Check you have requested The Domain Transfer Auth Code*, which you need to obtain from the current Registrar of the domain name that you wish to transfer.
Note: All Domain Name Server (DNS) changes must be completed before you request a transfer to IBSPoint Domain Transfer. Changes cannot be made to the domain name server while the transfer is in process.
  • IBSPoint Domain registration System will send an email to the administrative contact of the domain to confirm the transfer. The administrator will confirm and approve the transfer via a link in the email, which notifies the losing registrar to transfer the domain to IBSPoint Domain Registration System. The losing registrar releases the domain to IBSPoint Domain Transfer and sends an email to the administrative contact confirming that the domain has been successfully transferred.
  • You can now manage your domain online through IBSPoint Domains tab from your account management by logging in to our customer’s area on the site.

* Transfer Auth Also known as: “Transfer Secret” or “EPP Auth Code” is a code assigned by the Registrar at the time the domain name was registered. This Domain (Transfer) Secret acts like a password for a domain name, ensuring that only the owner of the domain can transfer their domain name.

IMPORTANT:

  • If your domain expired with your old Registrar, and you renewed it with them, then do not Transfer it within 45 days of the previous expiry date since it will not add 1 more year to your domain name, and you will lose out on the Renewal fees paid to the older Registrar.
  • ICANN & Registry regulations prohibit the transfer of domain names that have been registered or previously transferred within the last 60 Days. Please wait for 60 days from the date of registration or previous transfer before applying for a transfer of such domain names.
